General Objective

Support accurate sample registration and safe patient care.

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for ensuring accurate and efficient registration of patient samples and providing safe, professional phlebotomy services for walk-in patients. This role supports sample integrity, patient satisfaction, smooth laboratory operation, patient safety, quality, impartiality, and confidentiality in compliance with ISO 15189:2022 and SLIPTA V3 requirements.

Sample Registration

  • Accurately register patient samples into the LIS or manual logbooks with full traceability.
  • Verify patient and sample information to avoid discrepancies.
  • Ensure correct labeling and secure tracking from reception to processing.
  • Coordinate timely transfer and processing with other laboratory sections.
  • Maintain complete records for audit and accreditation compliance.

Phlebotomy

  • Perform venipuncture and phlebotomy for walk-in patients safely and professionally.
  • Apply aseptic technique and infection prevention protocols.
  • Manage pediatric, elderly, or difficult patients with care and professionalism.
  • Label and secure samples immediately to preserve integrity.
  • Dispose of sharps and biohazard waste according to ISO 15190 safety standards.

Quality, Compliance & Service

  • Follow SOPs, ISO 15189:2022, SLIPTA V3, and safety regulations.
  • Report non-conformities, incidents, risks, or hazards promptly.
  • Protect confidentiality and data security of patient information and LIS access.
  • Provide excellent customer service with empathy and professionalism.
  • Support inventory, training, CPD, audits, meetings, and improvement activities.
